I have put off reviewing this one for an exceptionally long time. In some ways, I believe I am threatened by it. I think this may be my favourite album on the list. It feels complete and like nothing is missing. I dislike the “dits and random noise” segments throughout, but the positives outweigh the negatives by so much.

This is a masterpiece. This album has an incredible symphonic sound and I have listened to it a number of times in the week since my first listen. Things I love about King Crimson 1) the fantastic drumming!!!! 2) the fantastic flute playing!!!! 3) the clever and political lyrics. It was just by chance we listened to this album right before we watched Apocalypse Now and it ended up with me being heavily steeped in the conflict and politics of the Vietnam War for a March weekend in 2026.
I cannot believe that this is their first album. Usually first albums are raw, and there are notes to be learned for the future. I would say no notes on this one. The vocals on Court of the Crimson King are magnificent and act like an instrument introducing this Gregorian chant feeling. I love the drumming. Michael Giles is precise, powerful and supports the music so well.
9.9/10 and well earned!
