I enjoyed this one, but don’t see myself listening to it again. The vocals were great though. I felt a lot of emotion in them.

My Mother listened to Janis Joplin quite a bit when I was a kid so this album was familiar to me although I cannot tell you the last time I listened to it. So this listening was steeped in the familiar and felt special because my Mom passed away just a few months ago.
One of the most amazing parts of this project has been to hear the similarities and differences between music and musicians. Janis Joplin does have a gravelly, but screamy quality to her voice. I found that her voice sounds so open and creates sounds that I just don’t think I could. I think if I was trying to project the notes she was my voice would sound very constrained. Now given this unique style I guess I was not expecting to find similarities to other musicians, but I did find that the sound of Pearl and Janis Joplin here reminded me of Alanis Morrisette and her album Jagged Little Pill.
I really appreciated Janis’s album’s focus on story-telling and a disdain for the idea of a wealthy ruling class and the patriarchy.
8.2/10 I look forward to listening again.
