I was shocked by how amazing this album was. I had seen a copy that had belonged to a grandfather of mine kicking around and always assumed that it was old-people music. In a way it was, but in another way it was one of my biggest surprises throughout this project.

I have never listened to the music of Carole King (or at least not that I realized). I was so surprised with how excellent the album was, with how many songs I recognized, and with what an important album this is. THis album has a folk feel and reminded me of Tori Amos in that a female voice and piano were a frequent component of the songs. I listened to it a few times through. I enjoyed it very much. I recognized a number of the songs as being covered by other artists.

I love how unpretentious this album cover is. This album was such a surprise to me with such excellent songwriting, music and vocals that one would expect something fantastical on that cover. But instead she presents herself almost like a woman at home and this perpetuates her humility.
