I was super underwhelmed by this one. I was expecting the “Perfect Album” but found only a pretty good pop and R&B album. Good singing, loved the saxophone, just not for me.

“What kind of fuckery is this?” These lyrics, this soul, this musical majesty.  She never rushes. No notes. But perhaps some thoughts… 1) Tears dry on their own sounds so much like it could be a Lauryn Hill song. My research suggests that this is due to the shared sound between British soul and 60s motown. 2) Back to Black has the best lyrics. I just love how clever they are - well to be honest all of the lyrics are clever but it sticks out so much to me in that song.

I find this album cover to be authentic. I think it presents Amy Winehouse as herself, not as something else and it feels personal, intimate, and honest. I do enjoy it.
